I thought I should put this into some perspective for you all. We are very close to the Stevensons Road landfill in Cranbourne, where the methane is escaping from. In fact we are about 10 metres from it, but not at the top end where the house recorded the high methane gas reading. Here are some photos from our back fence. The second one is zoomed in so you can see some of the activity. That thin post in the first one is a methane burner. We can see the flame burning from our living room.

Here is a map of the area that has been identified as at risk and an indication of the area that we live in. The blue area is where we live, the red shaded is the hot spot closer to the high methane levels. The red rectangle is the area that the CFA advised to residents to relocate if they wanted to ensure they were 100% safe.
